How Does Gender Filter Work?

Instagram doesn't publicly expose user gender. Wolf Engager Pro estimates gender from first names in public profiles, so you can target males, females, or both. Useful for gender-specific products, services, or audiences.

Where to find it

Open your task → Audience Filters → Gender Selection section → tick Enable.

You'll see two controls:

  1. Gender dropdown — Male / Unisex / Female
  2. Enable Skip Mode checkbox — flips the behavior (skip selected gender instead of targeting it)

How to use it — two modes

Mode 1: Whitelist (target this gender)

Skip Mode = OFF

Pick a gender → Wolf Engager Pro will only engage profiles matching that gender prediction.

Example: women's fashion brand → pick Female   with Skip Mode off → engagement only fires on profiles detected as female.

Mode 2: Blacklist (skip this gender)

Skip Mode = ON

Pick a gender → Wolf Engager Pro will skip that gender and engage everyone else.

Example: men's grooming brand wants to skip female accounts → pick Female   with Skip Mode ON → workflow targets male + unisex profiles.

When Unisex   makes sense

Pick Unisex when you want both male and female targeted but want to skip ambiguous/unrecognizable names (business accounts, non-Western names the model isn't trained on, brand handles). Reduces noise.

How accurate is it?

Honest answer: 70–85% accurate, depending on the audience.

  • ✅ High accuracy on Western-style first names (John  , Sarah  , Michael  )
  • ⚠️ Lower accuracy on:
    • Non-Latin scripts (Korean, Arabic, Chinese names)
    • Brand/business accounts (no personal name)
    • Unisex names (Alex  , Sam  , Taylor  )
    • Usernames without a recognizable first name (xx_rider_99  )

For ambiguous accounts, the workflow either skips them entirely or treats them as Unisex   (depending on your settings).

Custom name list

You can also add specific first names with gender labels to a custom list — useful for niches with name conventions the default model doesn't catch. Refer to the field in the Gender Selection section.

Trade-offs

  • ✅ Better audience precision for gender-specific products
  • ✅ Higher engagement quality when gender matters to your offer
  • ⚠️ Slower overall task speed — some profiles get skipped, so daily action counts drop
  • ⚠️ Treat results as guidance, not certainty — predictions are good, not perfect

Combine with other filters

Gender Selection works alongside:

  • Country Filter — for women in the US   or men in Europe   style targeting
  • Verified Filter — to skip verified accounts (often brands, not personal accounts)
  • Language Filter — picks accounts posting in specific languages

Stack filters thoughtfully — each one tightens audience quality but slows speed.

Common mistakes

  • ❌ Enabling Gender Selection on a niche where it doesn't matter (productivity, tech) — just slows the workflow
  • ❌ Picking Female   for a B2B brand — most business accounts don't have personal first names → most will be skipped
  • ❌ Forgetting Skip Mode is enabled when you wanted to target, not skip
